Signs your washer needs a repair
Washer repair in Belmont is the job we get called for more than any other. Washers work harder than any appliance in the house: they fill, heat, agitate, drain and spin at high speed several times a week, and every one of those steps depends on a pump, a valve, a sensor, a lock or a bearing that can wear out. When one of them fails, the machine stops, leaks, smells or shows a code, and the laundry piles up fast.
Clothes come out soaking wet because the washer will not spin
Water stays in the drum after the cycle ends
The door will not lock, or stays locked after the cycle is done
Water on the floor under or in front of the machine
Loud banging, grinding or a jet-engine roar during the spin
An error code such as LG IE, OE, UE or LE, Samsung 4C, 5C or DC, or Maytag F9E1
Price before any work What Our Washer Repair Includes
Most of the washers we see in Belmont are front-loaders from LG, Samsung, Whirlpool, Maytag and Electrolux, with a good number of top-load Whirlpool Cabrio, Maytag Bravos and GE machines in older homes and rentals. We carry the common parts for these brands on the truck, so a failed drain pump, door lock, inlet valve or lid switch can usually be replaced on the first visit.
You get a technician who tests the part before replacing it. Error codes point us to a system, not a single part, so we check the wiring, the sensor and the control before we hand you a price. You hear what failed, why it failed and what it costs before any work starts.
- A full diagnostic of the fill, wash, drain and spin systems, not just the part named by the error code
- Testing of door locks, lid switches, pressure sensors and control boards with a meter
- Repair or replacement of pumps, inlet valves, belts, couplers, shock absorbers, suspension rods and bearings
- Clearing of drain filters, hoses and pumps blocked by socks, coins, hair ties and lint
- Door gasket and boot seal replacement on front-load washers
- A test cycle after the repair, with a leak check under the machine before we leave
From Your Call to a Working Appliance
Four steps, no runaround. Here is exactly what to expect.
- 1
Call and describe it
Tell us the brand, what the washer is doing and any code on the display. We give you an arrival window, usually the same day.
- 2
We diagnose it
We run a diagnostic cycle, read the fault history where the model allows it and test the suspect parts with a meter.
- 3
You approve the price
We show you what failed and give you the price for the repair. Nothing gets replaced until you say yes.
- 4
We repair and test
We fit the part, run a full cycle, check for leaks and make sure the washer drains and spins at full speed.
Front-load washer problems we fix most
Front-loaders save water and are gentle on clothes, but their design brings its own set of failures. The drum sits on its side, so the door has to seal against a rubber boot every cycle. Water that stays trapped in the folds of that boot grows mildew, and the boot can tear where it rubs against zippers and belt buckles. We replace torn and moldy gaskets often, especially on LG and Samsung machines that are five years old or more. See our page on washer door gasket replacement for what that job involves.
The second most common front-load failure is the door lock. The washer will not fill until the control sees the door locked, so a bad lock shows up as a machine that hums, clicks and refuses to start, or flashes a lock error. The third is the drain pump. Front-loaders have a small pump at the bottom with a coin trap or filter in front of it, and anything small that escapes a pocket ends up there. A jammed or failed pump leaves water in the drum and usually triggers an OE, 5C or F9E1 code.
Bearing failure is the big one. When the rear tub bearings wear, the spin gets louder every week until it sounds like a jet taking off. On some models the bearings can be replaced; on others the outer tub is sealed and the repair costs close to a new washer. We tell you which kind you have before you spend anything.
Top-load washer problems we fix most
Top-load washers in Belmont fall into two groups. Older agitator models are simple and tough, and they usually fail at the lid switch, the drive coupler, the timer or the water pump. These are inexpensive parts and the repair almost always makes sense. Newer high-efficiency top-loaders such as the Whirlpool Cabrio and Maytag Bravos use a wash plate instead of an agitator, and their weak spots are the shift actuator, the drive motor, the suspension rods and the lid lock.
If your top-loader thumps hard against the cabinet during spin, walks across the floor or stops with an off-balance code even with small loads, the suspension rods are usually worn. They are a quick swap. If it fills and drains but never agitates, we look at the shift actuator or the drive motor. If it spins slowly and leaves clothes wet, the clutch or the drive belt is the usual suspect. Our page on washers that will not spin goes deeper into that one.
Error codes are a starting point, not a diagnosis
A code tells us which system the control thinks has a problem. It does not tell us which part failed. An LG IE code means the washer did not fill in time; the cause could be a closed supply valve, a kinked hose, a clogged inlet screen, a failed inlet valve or a bad pressure sensor. A Samsung 5C or LG OE means the water did not drain; the cause could be a sock in the pump, a kinked drain hose, a failed pump motor or a wiring fault.
That is why we test before we replace. Swapping parts until the code goes away is the most expensive way to fix a washer. We check the supply, the hoses, the part itself and the wiring to the control, then replace only what failed. Our guide to LG washer error codes explains what each common code means and which ones you can clear yourself.
What we need from you, and what you can check first
Before you call, a few quick checks can save a visit. Make sure both water valves behind the washer are fully open. Make sure the drain hose is not kinked behind the machine. On a front-loader, open the small panel at the bottom front and clean the drain filter, with a towel and a shallow pan ready because water will come out. Unplug the washer for one full minute to reset the control. If the problem is still there, call us.
When you call, have the brand and the model number ready. The model number is usually on a sticker inside the door opening, under the lid or on the back of the cabinet. A photo of the sticker and of any error code on the display helps us bring the right part the first time, which is how most of our washer repairs in Belmont get finished in a single visit.

Leaks: where the water is coming from
A washer leak tells you a lot by where it shows up. Water at the front of a front-loader usually comes from the door gasket, the detergent drawer or a loose drain filter cap. Water under the middle of the machine usually comes from the drain pump, a hose inside the cabinet or the tub seal. Water at the back often comes from the inlet hoses, the inlet valve or the drain hose where it enters the standpipe.
Inlet hoses deserve special attention. Rubber hoses harden and crack with age, and a burst hose can release a lot of water quickly. If yours are original rubber hoses, replacing them with braided stainless hoses is a small job that prevents a big problem. We check hoses on every washer call.
Washers in Belmont homes
Many Belmont homes sit on hillsides, and laundry often ends up in a garage or on a lower level. Washers on uneven concrete floors need their feet adjusted carefully, or they vibrate, walk and wear out their suspension. Lower-level laundry rooms can also hide a slow leak for weeks. When we repair a washer, we level it and check the floor around it for signs of water.
If you are in a nearby city, we cover San Carlos, Redwood City, San Mateo and the rest of our service area the same way.
Stacked units and all-in-one washer dryers
Stacked washer and dryer pairs, and all-in-one combo machines that wash and dry in the same drum, are common in Belmont condos and townhomes. Combo machines save space but put more demands on one appliance: they heat, condense and drain as well as wash. When they fail, the cause is often a clogged condenser path, a drain pump or a door lock. We repair both stacked pairs and combo units on site.
When to Call Us
Call us when the washer leaks, will not drain, will not spin, will not start, makes a new loud noise or shows the same error code after a reset. A slow drip under a front-loader can damage a subfloor long before you see it, and a failing bearing gets more expensive to fix the longer it runs.
If water is spreading across the floor, turn off the two supply valves behind the washer and unplug it before you call. We will take it from there.
Before we arrive: Write down the brand, the model number from the sticker inside the door or under the lid, and any code on the display. If the drum is full of water, leave it closed; we drain it safely on arrival.

Washer Repair Questions
How long does a washer repair take?
Most washer repairs take one to two hours on site, including the test cycle. Bearing jobs and some control board replacements take longer or need a part to be ordered.
Is it worth repairing a washer that is eight years old?
Usually, yes, if the repair is a pump, valve, lock, belt, gasket or suspension part. If the bearings have failed on a sealed tub, or the control and motor have both failed, replacement often makes more sense. We tell you which side of that line you are on.
Do you repair stacked washer and dryer units?
Yes. We repair stacked units and all-in-one combo machines. Stacked units sometimes need to be separated to reach the washer, which we do on site.
Why does my front-load washer smell bad?
Detergent residue and water trapped in the door gasket, the drain filter and the drain pump grow mildew. Cleaning the filter, running a hot cleaning cycle and leaving the door open helps. If the gasket is torn or black with mold, replacing it fixes the smell for good.
Can you fix my washer on the first visit?
Most of the time. We carry common parts for LG, Samsung, Whirlpool, Maytag, GE and Electrolux washers. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you when it will arrive and come back to finish the job.
Should I replace my washer inlet hoses?
If they are old rubber hoses, yes. Braided stainless hoses are inexpensive and much less likely to burst.
Why does my washer stop mid-cycle?
It usually means a step did not finish in time, such as filling or draining, or the door lock lost contact. The display often shows a code that points us to the system involved.
Do you repair washer dryer combo units?
Yes. We repair all-in-one combo machines as well as stacked pairs and standalone washers.
